The history of the Villa

Built in the sixteenth century by the patrician Cappello family as an agricultural estate, the villa has undergone several transformations and extensions over the centuries.

The property gained the name Villa Imperiale in 1834, when it became the residence of Maria Anna of Savoy, wife of Emperor Ferdinand I of Austria. Subsequently, after the union of Veneto with the Kingdom of Italy in 1866, the villa passed to the Raggio De Micheli family.

Converted into a military hospital during the First World War, and later into the headquarters of the IV Army Corps, the estate continued to serve as a hospital throughout the twentieth century.

Today, the villa is a residence for the elderly and its park has become the property of the municipality of Galliera.
