The common belief is that a seaside holiday is all about swimming in the Adriatic, sand castles
and days on the beach under the sun to get that much-desired tan. But what if we told you
that Cavallino Treporti is also the ideal place for cycling enthusiasts?
There are many routes on two wheels that you can follow on your own or by taking part in the
excursions organised by the Cavallino Treporti Tourist Park, and here are some of the best-
loved and most evocative!
Why such a peculiar name? You have to know that in Cavallino Treporti there is not only the salt
water of the Adriatic, but also the fresh water of the river Sile. On this route you will touch the
waters of the northern lagoon, the Adriatic Sea and the mouth of the Sile.
A ring-route away from the traffic, which starts from Piazza Santa Maria Elisabetta and
connects the lagoon to the river Sile. The route is just under 14 kilometres long and is suitable
for everyone because it is free of difficulty. You will be able to see the basins of Cavallino,
which regulated the flow of water in the river, admire the "scales" on the Sile, the pile dwellings
used for fishing, and the Piave Vecchia Lighthouse.
Among gardens and vegetable gardens but never straying too far from the sea: at 25.5 km this is one of the longest routes in the Cavallino Treporti cycle tourism offer. This journey on 2 wheels begins on the bridge over the Pordelio Canal, and then crosses the entire centre of Cavallino Treporti. The route then continues into the lagoon with the magical islands of Burano and San Francesco in the background. During this ride you can immerse yourself completely in nature, do some bird watching, and discover the unspoilt and timeless side of our territory.
If, in addition to biking, you also have a passion for history, you'll love the Fortifications Route! 15.5 km on asphalted ground that will take you on a discovery of no less than 200 forts built between 1845 and 1920, from Austrian domination to the period between the two great wars.
You can also choose to get off your bike and visit the buildings open to the public, such as Batteria Vettor Pisani, which houses a museum, or those that can be visited outside, such as Batteria Amalfi and Fort Treporti.
Our city has many stories to tell you, if you are willing to listen to the whispering of the stones and artefacts!
You will have already worked out the best time to enjoy this route on your bike!
12.9 km for this loop itinerary that will take you to admire the island of Sant'Erasmo, the "vegetable garden of Venice", the Mose, the Punta Sabbioni pine forest and the Pagoda lighthouse on the beach.
Describing the magic of this route in words is limiting; the only way to understand its beauty is... to pedal it!
In May 2020 a new section of cycle path was inaugurated on the bridge over the Sile: so if you want to move between the 2 towns of Jesolo and Cavallino Treporti you can do so in complete safety.
The new section of cycle path connects Via Anna Frank in Jesolo with Via Baracca in Cavallino Treporti and is completely separate from the main traffic route.
You can cycle or walk along it and enjoy a new view of the magical lagoon and river landscape provided by the Sile.
